Granted, I only stuck around for 4 to 5 events after the game was sold, but with not a single useful unit in those events. But after being sold it felt like all easy-to-get units for F2P people from events were Healers, Revivers or weak-damage CC'ers. What you wanted to do was use buffers and "activators" to max out your damage cap, then use a single multi-hit-ability unit to do tons of damage. I forget what they're called, but "Activators"(basically you use their ability and it triggers other unit's abilities to be used).
